About the Show:

With a book by Arthur Kopit, music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The story is based on Federico Fellini’s semi-autobiographical film 8 ½. It focuses on film director Guido Contini, savoring his most recent (and greatest) success but dreading his imminent 40th birthday and a midlife crisis blocking his creative impulses and entangling him in a web of romantic difficulties in early 1960s Venice. The original Broadway production opened in 1982 and ran for 729 performances, starring Raul Julia. The musical won five Tony Awards, including best musical, and has enjoyed a number of revivals.
The revival opened April 10, 2003 and won two Tony Awards, including best revival. The cast included Antonio Banderas as Guido, (Tony Award nominee), Maru Stuart Masterson as Luisa (Tony Award nominee), Chita Rivera as Liliane, Jane Krakowski as Carla (winning the Tony), Laura Benanti as Claudia, and Mary Beth Peil as Guido’s mother.
In the Manila Production, Jett Pangan stars as Italian filmmaker Guido Contini with an all-star cast of women.
Tony Award winning scenic designer, David Gallo joins the creative team. He has previously worked with Bobby Garcia on the Asian Touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Costumes will be designed by New York-based Filipino Fashion Designer, Robin Tomas.

Check out the Powerhouse Cast of "Nine"... (from theaterati)
  • Ima Castro - Vocal Powerhouse. She was last seen in Atlantis’ In the Heights but of course, the show that really solidified her status as a leading lady of Philippine theater after being gone for so long was Aida. She now plays Sarraghina, the prostitute who teaches a young Guido Contini the ways of the world.
  • Jay Glorioso - Theater legend. She was last seen as Abuela Claudia in “In the Heights” and then before that, as Madame Armfeldt in “A Little Night Music.” Tita Jay (as she is fondly called) is the recipient of the Aliw Award for Best Supporting Actress for both shows. Here she plays Guido’s mother.
  • Eula Valdez - Madame Claudia. Sure you can say that she played the fabulous Zsazsa Zaturnnah in Tanghalang Pilipino’s triumphant theatrical run. But we will forever remember, of course, as Amor Powers, Madame Claudia’s nemesis in Pangako Sa ‘Yo. Funnily, she plays the role of Claudia Nardi, film star and muse to Guido Contini in this show.
  • Menchu Lauchengo Yulo - The first lady of musical theater. Menchu reunites with Jett Pangan after sharing the stage together in Next to Normal and directing him in Jekyll & Hyde. Here she will play Jett’s devoted wife, Luisa Contini.
  • Jett Pangan - Rock star and Musical Theater Favorite. Jett Pangan was last seen in Atlantis’ Rock of Ages, and he is of course a member of The Dawn. He will be playing the role of Guido Contini which was played in the film by Daniel Day-Lewis.
  • Carla Guevara-Laforteza - One of Manila’s premiere leading leading ladies. She last played Lucy in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Olive in Atlantis’ Spelling Bee. Incidentally, she will be playing Carla Albanese, Guido’s mistress.
  • Yanah Laurel - Musical Theater’s up and coming “It Girl.” Yanah last appeared on the Atlantis stage in The Little Mermaid. In Nine, she plays Stephanie Necrophorus, film critic-turned-assistant to Liliane Le Fleur.
  • Cherie Gil - Multi-awarded film, TV and stage icon. Cherie Gil returns to the stage as film producer Liliane Le Fleur who sings the showstopping Follies Bergeres. She was last seen in POC’s Master Class.
  • Sitti Navarro - Bossa Nova Sensation. She last appeared onstage in Atlantis’ Spring Awakening. She will be playing Lady of the Spa, who narrates Guido’s journey in Europe’s most luxurious where he is hiding from the world.

Eugene Domingo as "Bona" (Extended Run) at the PETA Theater Center from September 28 - 30, 2012

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) presents...

Eugene Domingo in...
Bona

PETA Theater Center
No.5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City

"MANILA, Philippines—After 25 successful shows, the Philippine Educational Theater Association is extending its run of “Bona” until September 30 at The PETA Theater Center.
From the 1980’s Lino Brocka film starring Nora Aunor as the naïve, schoolgirl Bona and Philip Salvador as Gardo, the movie extra whom Bona worshipped out of fan obsession, PETA’s production presents a similar story with characters in the modern setting.
Portraying the title role, Eugene Domingo plays a spinster call center agent who becomes obsessed with a star-search wannabe actor essayed by Edgar Allan Guzman.
“Lahat kami nag-share ng experiences namin and we gave our input on how we think the story of Bona should be during this time. Dapat reflection ito ng panahon natin but we retained the vision of Direk Lino Brocka. Pero in the same manner, dapat maka-identify din ang audience sa kuwento kasi contemporary na ang setting,” shares lead actress Domingo.
“By bridging film, theater and television, Bona aims to gather more supporters for the theater industry,” says Domingo, as she urges movie and TV audiences to also patronize the theater, “I encourage them to please experience theater.” - Philippine Daily Inquirer

About the Show:

"Spinster call center agent Bona upon seeing the televised pitiful background of Gino Sanchez immediately becomes a fan of the Star of Tomorrow wannabe. In her desire to help him jumpstart his showbiz career, she gives him everything she has and turns her back to everything she values. Blinded by her belief in him, she allows all his faults to freely slide as she finds herself drowning in the surreal quicksand of worship and pity where manipulation blurs the line between prey and predator, the dismissive god and the faithful worshiper." - PETA
Director: Soxie Topacio
Writer: Lalie Bucoy

About the Show:

Cirque Du Soleil to Perform the Signature Production Saltimbanco in Manila

Saltimbanco is Cirque du Soleil’s longest-running touring show and has performed since 1992 to wide-spread acclaim to sell-out audiences in Europe, North and South America, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand for more than 11.5 million enthusiastic fans.

Classic Cirque du Soleil at its best, Saltimbanco is a thrilling and kaleidoscopic celebration of awe-inspiring artistry and agility. With a cast of 50 high-caliber artists hailing from 20 different countries, Saltimbanco features breathtaking acrobatics and unbelievable athleticism during solo spotlights and epic ensembles. From the seemingly impossible balancing, jumping, and spinning during the Chinese Poles or the Russian Swing to the gravity-defying Bungees and Trapeze, the crowd pleasing Juggling and Acrobatic Bicycle, to the celebrated and very unique Clowns. Technical expertise and extravagant design are woven together by uplifting spectacular costumes, amazing lighting, humor and enchanting music and magic. Full of colour, amusement and amazement, Saltimbanco is a fun show for the whole family.

Saltimbanco - from the Italian “saltare in banco,” which literally means “to jump on a bench”- explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likeness, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers. A signature show, it is inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual, the show’s eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.

Kina Grannis at Teatrino Promenade, Greenhills on August 8, 2012

Kina Grannis
"In Your Arms" World Tour 2012

Teatrino Promenade, Greenhills, San Juan
August 8, 2012 (Wednesday)
8:00 PM

Ticket Prices:
P 1,950 (With Meet & Greet)
P 1,450 (Standard)
P 950 (Balcony)

About the Show:

"Kina Grannis, most recently known for her “In Your Arms” video, stop-motion clip features 288,000 Jelly Belly jellybeans – and 1 Kina Grannis – captured with 1 still camera over 2,460 frames and accruing more than 3.5 million YouTube views in just over 3 weeks, is starting her “In Your Arms” world tour in Dublin, Ireland on February 1, 2012. Making her way to Asia for the first time, be sure to be captivated by Kina’s intimate performance, just 1 Kina Grannis and her guitar, serenading audiences with her sweet, melancholy, hope-filled songs like Valentine, In Your Arms and many others. Come on down for a wonderful evening of sweet serenades!

About Kina Grannis:
Born and raised in Mission Viejo, CA, Kina Grannis started playing shows at the age of four in front of stuffed animals. Now she plays in front of people. For those who knew Kina as the shy and self-proclaimed-awkward songstress who escaped into the collegiate stairwells to practice and play in privacy, the idea of playing in front in inanimate objects might actually seem fitting. But between those who travel across state and country lines to her sold out live shows and those navigating through her extensive library of YouTube videos, it’s quite clear that Kina is hardly playing for no one.

Since the original release of Stairwells, Kina continued to super-serve her ever-loyal following. She spent much of 2010 on the road, headlining venues across North America, performing sold out shows at Los Angeles’ Troubadour and El Rey Theater and New York City’s Highline Ballroom, spending hours after each and every show signing autographs for, taking pictures with and talking to anyone in attendance. On April 5th, 2011 Kina released a remixed and remastered version of Stairwells, this time in stores and internationally. This new version of Stairwells includes fan-favorites “Valentine” and “Message From Your Heart”. The following week Stairwells once again debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 and #2 on its New Artist/Heatseekers chart and follow-up single “the One You Say Goodnight To” premiered and debuted #2 at MTV.com (behind only Beyonce).

On November 3, Kina released her video for “In Your Arms,” a song from her album Stairwells. A whopping 22 months in the making, the video is a staggering product of creativity, patience and execution. The Greg Jardin-directed stop-motion clip features 288,000 Jelly Belly jellybeans – and 1 Kina Grannis – captured with 1 still camera over 2,460 frames. To call the video a success would be an understatement, as “In Your Arms” has arguably become the artist’s most polarizing achievement, a lofty claim for someone whose first music video found airtime during Super Bowl XLII. Accruing more than 3.5 million YouTube views in just over 3 weeks, “In Your Arms” earned Kina and interview and performance on the aforementioned Ellen Degeneres show, an iTunes Music Video of The Week and features on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Billboard, Mashable, Entertainment Weekly, E! News, CNN’s Showbiz Insider, Inside Edition, The Huffington Post, Yahoo!, and MTV, among dozens of other television, internet and video outlets. Consequently, the track rocketed to #1 on iTunes Singer Songwriter Chart, while Stairwells reached #2 on the same chart and reappeared on Billboard’s New Artist/Heatseekers Chart, ascending as high as #4 overall." - TicketWorld

One of the most successful and long-running shows in local showbiz history, Greatest Hits features balladeers from the ’70s And ’80s eras performing their enduring hit songs.

Dubbed as the Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala during his heydays, Hajji Alejandro still cuts a striking figure on stage. He started his career as one of the vocalists of the famed Circus Band. He launched his solo career in 1976 with the hit songs Panakip Butas and Tag-araw. These were later followed by May Minamahal, Nakapagtataka, Ang Lahat Ng Ito’y Para Sa ‘yo and Ryan Cayabyab’s Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika, the first winner of the Metro Manila Popular Song Festival in 1978.

Marco Sison, the Romantic Balladeer, was the winner of a talent contest in the variety show Student Canteen. Among these are Make Believe, My Love Will See You Through, Always, I’ll Face Tomorrow, Mahal, Ibigay Mo Sa Akin Ang Bukas and Si Aida, Si Lorna at Si Fe.

Last year, the birthday gift I gave myself is an expensive ticket worth almost P5,000 to Cirque Du Soleil's "Varekai." Pikit-mata talaga when I bought the ticket but I wanted to watch it so badly due to the good reviews. After the show, I'm glad I made that decision and told myself I wanted to watch all 21 Cirque Du Soleil's shows kung kakayanin in my lifetime. I'm so happy "Saltimbanco" is coming to Manila this month, again my birthday gift to myself =)

I was blessed to watch "Phantom of the Opera" with my sister in Broadway, New York City. I'm recommending it so much that if you are going to witness one musical in your lifetime, let it be this... I'm a theater addict so that's saying much =)

"Potted Potter" is a delight for Harry Potter fans and "Bona" seems interesting due to the talented Eugene Domingo in it.

May we be inspired and make more money to be able to watch these wonderful shows... hehe =)
