Lorenz Martinez

Featuring Surprise celebrity guests!

Directed by Joel Trinidad

Created by Gerard Alessandrini, Forbidden Broadway is a "consistently riotous" (The New York Times) musical revue that features beloved songs from the most popular Broadway musicals — Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, and Cats, to name just a few — with hilariously clever new lyrics that poke fun at the shows themselves. And although “there's no Broadway like Forbidden Broadway" (Entertainment Weekly), it’s not just for theater fans! With more than 9,000 performances in 200 U.S. cities and in London, Tokyo, Singapore, and Sydney, eleven cast albums, and countless awards, it’s clear that "even if you've never been within 1000 miles of Broadway you'll still love Forbidden Broadway!" Joel Trinidad in "Defending the Caveman" at the RCBC Plaza from January 6 to 15, 2012

Theater Mogul and CTE Productions present...
Defending the Caveman
by Rob Becker

Broadway's Smash Comedy about the Sexes

Starring: Joel Trinidad
Directed by: Michael Williams & Cathy Azanza-Dy

"Defending the Caveman" Repeat performance in Makati!"

"I laughed so hard my sides ached and tears ran down my face!"

"The show is so funny and so true!"

"What a hilarious and insightful show!"

"This play can save marriages… I'm not kidding!"

These are just some of the comments overheard last February 2010 at the Insular Life Theater in Alabang, where audiences had just seen local theater veteran Joel Trinidad in "Defending the Caveman," the longest-running one-man comedy show in Broadway history, which has sold over 8 million tickets worldwide in 16 different languages.

Why is this show such a hit everywhere in the world? Well, is there a more widely discussed subject than the difference between men and women? There are hundreds of books written on the subject but nevertheless there are few texts which address this eternal discussion point as humorous and as recognizable as the monologue "Caveman." "Defending the Caveman" shows in a hilarious, clear, and familiar way how different men and women are. Whatever the nationality is, both men and women will identify themselves clearly in the show's message.

"Defending the Caveman" was greeted upon its Philippine premiere with uncontrollable laughter, knowing nods of agreement, and a resounding standing ovation! Then, "Defending the Caveman" played to another appreciative crowd at the RCBC Plaza, Makati last May 2011.

And now, come see what all the raves are about...

Review: I actually watched this during their May 2011 run, staged at the RCBC Plaza as well. Joel trinidad is an admirable theater actor (I also sometimes watch him in his SPIT performances). Amazing that he could memorize and ad-lib all those lines being a one-person show. Though the script could be improved by incorporating examples that are part of our Filipino culture so it could drive the sentiments of the audience more close to home =)

About the Show:

The Woman: A Story of Love, Loss, and Style

Do you remember……

Twirling in rainbow skirts during childhood birthday parties?

Feeling embarrassed buying your very first bra?

Buying a pair of killer red heels to get over your ex?

Walking down the aisle in Mom's wedding gown to be with the person you will forever cherish?

Each milestone in a woman's life is filled with laughter, tears, and memorable fashion choices. Behind each halter top, faded pair of jeans, cocktail dress, painful set of stilettos, and designer handbag, she has a story to tell.

The sensational Off-Broadway show, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, written by sisters Nora Ephron (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle) and Delia Ephron (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Hanging Up), vividly recounts a selection of comic and heartwarming stories from various women who remember key moments in their lives through the clothes they wore. The show is based on the bestselling book by Ilene Beckerman, and has featured notable actresses such as Jane Lynch (Glee), Rosie O'Donnell, Brooke Shields (Blue Lagoon, Grease), Betty White (Golden Girls), Rita Wilson, Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray), Fran Drescher (The Nanny), Jamie Lynn Siegler (The Sopranos and Entourage), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Kathy Najimy (Sister Act movie series), Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked), to name just a few.

Since its debut in 2009 at New York's Westside Theater, Love, Loss and What I Wore has never failed to garner praise from critics and delight audience members who saw themselves or someone they knew in each funny and poignant tale. The show won the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience as well as the 2010 Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite New Off-Broadway Play. It has since then been staged in Los Angeles, Toronto, Brazil, Germany, Australia, and Paris.

Now, it's the Filipina's turn to be charmed and moved by these tales of life and fashion as CTE Productions brings the acclaimed off-Broadway hit to Manila with some of the best female artists in the scene today.

The Asian premiere cast of Love, Loss, and What I Wore includes theater luminary and current Associate Artistic Director of Repertory Philippines, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, veteran theater actress, writer, and emerging director Cathy Azanza-Dy, TV host, model, performer, and creative visionary Teresa Herrera, thespian and music industry sensation Bituin Escalante, and acclaimed classical vocalist, theater performer, and executive director for Music Artes Philippines, Jay Valencia-Glorioso. The show is directed by the same tandem behind the hit show Defending The Caveman, Michael Williams and Cathy Azanza-Dy. Set design is by recent Gawad Buhay awardee Denis Lagdameo, and lighting will be engineered by sought-after lighting designer John Batalla.
