About the Show:

Music by George Stiles
Lyrics by Anthony Drewe

Book by Willis Hall

Sir James Barrie’s timeless tale of the boy who never grew up is reborn as a spectacular musical by Stiles & Drewe and the late Willis Hall.

As the lights over Wendy, John and Michael Darling's beds go out and the nursery of their London townhouse is thrown into darkness, a small light bounces across their nursery. Wendy's dollhouse is mysteriously illuminated and dresser drawers slide open and shut. And then, most mysterious of all, an unseen hand pushes the bedroom windows open and, wonder of wonders, Peter Pan comes soaring through -- and into our hearts.

Peter Pan, a boy who didn't want to grow up and so spent his life in Neverland battling the pirates and Indians, but when he brings the Darling children to Neverland with him, he is finally able to defeat his foe, Captian Hook, and befriend the Indian chief.

About the Show:

The long-awaited return of Westlife to the Philippines happens on September 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Have you gotten your tickets yet?

Westlife members Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne debuted in 1998 when they opened for Boyzone and the Backstreet Boys in Ireland. Since then they have received many awards and broke numerous records worldwide. In the UK alone, they’ve had 14 number one hits. Westlife is the fourth biggest selling boyband in the world with over 44 million albums sold.

Gravity Tour is Westlife’s eleventh concert tour to date. Known for their impressive concerts, for this tour the group collaborated with creative director William Baker, known for his work with Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis and Bjork. The group has stated this tour to be “bigger and better,” and is expected to perform their biggest hits and more, including “Flying Without Wings,” “World of Our Own”, “Uptown Girl”, “When You’re Looking Like That,” and “Safe.”

Although five years have passed since the group’s last appearance in the Philippines, the return of Westlife has been greatly anticipated by their longtime fans. Westlife’s local fanbase has been active throughout the years, especially the members of Official Westlife Fan Club Philippines and Westlife Philippines who have joined forces to support their favorite group. Fans from all over the country will also be making their way to Manila so as not to miss their beloved Irish superstars.

Zarzuelas of Pampanga in "Mikit Tamu King Milabas" (Romancing the Past) at the CCP on September 24, 2011

Mikit Tamu King Milabas (Romancing the Past)
Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater)
September 24, 2011 (Saturday)
4:00 PM

Zarzuelas of Pampanga at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP)

THE rich musical and cultural heritage of Pampanga will be celebrated in a musical production billed Mikit Tamu King Milabas (Romancing the Past) on September 24, 2011, 4 PM at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).

The show, a co-production of the CCP and ArtiSta.Rita, presents the collection of ArtiSta.Rita zarzuelas and showcases excerpts from the group’s most unforgettable and outstanding musicals staged in the last ten years. The show also marks the group’s 10th anniversary.

Founded in Sta. Rita, Pampanga in 2001, ArtiSta.Rita is a non-stock, non-profit organization composed of artists dedicated to promote the arts, and in particular to keeping Kapampangan music alive. Inspired by the popular songs of childhood, ArtiSta.Rita took on the challenging and ambitious project of recording old, almost-forgotten Kapampangan songs. Whether in their traditional form or modernized, the albums received an enthusiastic response and created a strong and loyal following for ArtiSta.Rita’s brand of music and artistry. To date, ArtiSta.Rita has produced four all-Kapampangan music recordings, with one more in the works. Among its other accomplishments is the creation of the Duman Festival in 2002. This yearly Festival, with fine Kapampangan music and cuisine as main attractions, has grown to become a grand cultural event, drawing crowds to Santa Rita, Pampanga. For its work in promoting Kapampangan culture, ArtiSta.Rita was given the 2004 Most Outstanding Kapampangan award and the 2007 National Commission for Culture and Arts Gawad Alab ng Haraya Award (Duman Festival).

For its CCP show, ArtiSta.Rita will present excerpts from three zarzuelas in its collection—-Kapampangan Ku, Kwayan and Pamanuli. Kapampangan Ku portrays provincial life in the olden times. Kwayan highlights the Kapampangan’s bayanihan spirit while Pamanuli shows how old traditions evolve and change in modern times.

Tickets are priced at Php1,500 with 50% discount for students, 20% discount for senior citizens, government employees and military personnel. Group discounts are available. For more information, please call the CCP Performing Arts Department at (63-2)832-1125 loc. 1606/1607 or CCP Box Office (63-2)832-3704.

Great Performances Series Featuring Pianist Carmencita Sipin Aspiras at the Philam Life Auditorium on September 11, 2011

MCO Foundation, Inc.

presents

"2011 Great Performances Series"
Carmencita Sipin Aspiras, Pianist
First Filipino to graduate from the prestigious Vienna Academy for the Performing Arts
The first and only Filipino grand prize winner of the Bonn International Beethoven Music Festival

Philam Life Auditorium (United Nations Avenue, Manila)
September 11, 2011 (Sunday)
6:00 PM

Repertoire:
Chopin's Ballade 3 & 4
Chopin's Nocturne Op. 62
Bach's Chaconne for solo violin transcribed for left hand by Brahms
Brahms' 2nd Piano Sonata

The recital was Aspiras' seventh. She has gotten quite a sizable following among Americans and Filipinos who are awed by her sensitive playing.

The recital was held in memory of Philippine-born American, Sally Valente Kreisler, a long-time president of Neighbors Abroad, the concert sponsor. It is an organization that promotes international and intercultural understanding. The late Kreisler was credited for promoting cultural events of Filipino and American artists.
The audience marveled at Aspiras' clear and luminous tones. She displayed the confidence of a seasoned performer. Cool, she played without choreographic bravura, the sound she carved out enough to define a musical idea and taste.

At once, the pianist proved her undiminished capability. √Član wrapped her playing, which she delivered with solid dispatch, vividly delineating each section.
