"This is the sixth year of the Virgin Labfest. The project showcases a harvest of new plays. The project will be a two weekend run of new plays.

On its 6th year, the project is an annual joint partnership of the Writer’s Bloc, Tanghalang Pilipino and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It aims to showcase a crop of new short/one act plays in full productions. In addition, there will be staged readings of full length works and Fragments site-specific excerpts of new works. While many of these playwrights are young and have provided new voices in Philippine theater, some of the participants are seasoned and veteran playwrights and dramatists who have written new works heretofore unpublished or unstaged. Furthermore, the 6th Virgin Labfest has opened its doors to other entries from key regions in the country, as well as several countries abroad. The project hopes to stage their works with the aim of establishing new paths in the field.
The Virgin Labfest seeks to explore new directions in contemporary Philippine Theater. The program’s avid encouragement to develop new and exciting, sometimes risky ideas and concepts into full productions is becoming its identifying mark in the Philippine Theater calendar.

INDEPENDENCE DATE with SIDE A

The concert scene will once again be graced by the country's premier band, SIDE A. Billed as INDEPENDENCE DATE WITH SIDE A, the event will take place on June 12, 2010, Saturday, 7:30pm at Quezon City Memorial Circle Disco Area, Elliptical Road, Quezon City.

Independence Date With Side A starts at 7:30 PM and promises a night of Tribute to Filipino talents as the band reminisces Basil Valdez's You, Ric Segreto's Don't Know What To Do, Labuyo's Tuloy Pa Rin, and Joey Albert's Tell Me, including timeless Forevermore and So Many Questions, etc.

One of the events highlight will be the rendition of the all time most requested QUEEN Classic Bohemian Rhapsody.

Side A will also sing cuts from their latest album, Only One, which is available in the USA via iTunes. When the album was released locally last year, it was a big hit among Side A loyal fans who have been supporting them for years, as well as the new generation of music lovers. A group of young fans praised Only One for having songs that would compare favorably to hits by current chart-topping artists like John Mayer and American Idol season seven champion David Cook. Among their favorites were the bluesy “Fallin'", the album's up tempo title track and “Something's Missing” and also gave a thumbs-up to the album's carrier single “Die Just A Little.”

Aside from playing for their fans, Side A will also play for charity. The beneficiary of Independence Date With Side A is the NPOWRD (Novaliches Pastoral Outreach for the Welfare and Resources of Persons-with-Disabilities).

First Pinoy Musical Film "EMIR" in Theaters Nationwide on June 9, 2010

"EMIR," the Movie, full length trailer

Article from YouTube:

Catch "EMIR," the biggest original Filipino musical written for the screen... showing in theaters nationwide starting on June 9, 2010 (Wednesday).

"EMIR" tells the story of Amelia, a Filipina from Ilocos who decides to work abroad to help her family. She takes care of a future crown prince - Ahmed, the Sheik's son - rearing him, and in the process, introducing the young boy to the culture, values, and language of the Philippines.

More than a nanny, Amelia acts as Ahmed's surrogate mother and is even willing to offer her life to ensure his safety.

Her journey reveals, through words and music, the life that overseas Filipino workers live -- their struggles to have a better life... their dreams, and the hope that someday their hard work will finally be rewarded.

"EMIR" is thus far, the only movie to take on the heart and soul of the Filipino through our innate love for music.

It is a tribute to our OFWs... The hands that work, and toil in foreign lands, and yet have one home, one heart and one spirit."

Article from the "EMIR" Project Brief:

"Francheska Farr won the role of Amelia after Director Chito Rono conducted multiple auditions for the ideal actress/singer. "EMIR" will also feature an ensemble of theater, film and television luminaries. Among them are Dulce, Julia Clarete, Bayang Barrios, Gigi Escalante, Liezl Batucan, Kalila Aguilos, Beverly Salviejo, Melanie Dujungco, Bodjie Pascua and Jhong Hilario."
