A children’s musical based on a folk tale as retold by Rio Alma. This folk tale uses chaos among animals in Mount Arayat to point out that whatever one does affect others. About the Show:

To end its 24th season, Philippine Ballet Theatre (PBT), the country's pre-eminent classical ballet company and a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is proud to present CARMINA BURANA AND OTHER BALLETS, in collaboration with the UST Symphony Orchestra and Coro Tomasino on evening shows.

Delight in a fresh re-staging of Marius Petipa's Paquita Grand pas classique, a major cornerstone in classical ballet repertoire from the late 19th century, now continually re-staged and performed by ballet companies around the world.

PBT artistic director Ronilo Jaynario also brings back to the stage his colorful neoclassical ballet 'Beatles Revived', a contemporary romance of sorts and a treat, not only for fans of The Beatles, but for dance and music lovers alike.

Finally, PBT invites audiences to revel once more in Barcelona-based choreographer David Campos Canteros' dark and brilliant 'Carmina Burana', an intriguing theatrical satire of Church and State as well as a powerful fusion of daring modern ballet and Carl Orff's celebrated scenic cantata.

Synopsis:

Louisa May Alcott`s 1869 semi-autobiographical classic novel gets a musical make over, with its themes of sisterhood and female empowerment providing an automatic connect for women of all ages. An inspiring story of the March sisters - Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy - growing up during the American Civil War. A story that touches the hearts and minds of young and old alike.

Little Women focuses on the four March sisters - feisty, tomboyish, aspiring author Jo, who maintains fierce loyalty and love for her family while refusing the constricting role laid out for women at that time, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth - and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio.

Synopsis:

"Magsimula Ka!" is the story of young dreamers whose ambitions fade in reality`s cruel glare.

Miguel is a young composer forced by his father to forego his music and bury his talent in the world of business.

Monina wants to help the less-privileged, but is frustrated by the many problems that beset earnest social workers like her.

Mario is a talented scriptwriter who settles for writing a "sex advice" column in a cheap tabloid.

Mandy has a beautiful singing voice but has to sing in a cheap beer garden because nobody will give him a helping hand.

These four young people belong to graduating class that is filled with so much hope but ends up capitulating to the uninspired demands of the workaday world.

Is there a way out for young people like them? "Magsimula Ka!" says there is. The thing is to start, to act to uphold one`s talent or ambition, despite all odds. The first step is the crucial one. Once you take it, everything else can follow.

The point is not lost on a disabled girl whom the four young people befriend and teach how to overcome her physical and psychological affliction.

It is not lost on the hostesses in the beer garden where Mandy sings. They learn to take pride in themselves and even lead the young graduates in a thanksgiving visit to the church in Baclaran.

It is not lost on Miguel`s mother, who finds fulfillment in her son`s eventual success.

It is not lost on Miguel`s mother, who comes to terms with his son`s ambition after a painful period of emotional strife.

It is not lost on Millie, Miguel`s younger sister, who play`s a crucial role in Miguel`s reconciliation with his father.

It is not lost on a nun who works with Monina at the rehabilitation centre.

It is not lost on the household help, Monang and Jograd, who dream of becoming showbiz stars like Miguel and his friends - and achieve that dreams despite of all odds.

Miguel, Mandy and Mario get their own start when they decide to enter a national pop song competition, the Philippop. They make it to the finals and the real suspense begins, because their entry is pitted against equally worthy songs.

The Philippop proves to be the climax of the play, as it weaves the different characters` various dreams together in a triumphant musical tapestry. Miguel and Monina acknowledge their love for each other and romance too has its start. The climatic song is the popular "Magsimula Ka!" a fitting theme for the musical and its cast of searchers.

It is a work inspired by the universe of the great filmmaker Federico Fellini where dancers re-evoke and reinvent images, scenes and characters from some of the maestro's films, accompanied by the famous melodies of Italian composer Nino Rota. The performance is characterized by an atmosphere full of poetry and emotion, energy and vigor, in which dance and theater mingle to recreate the spectacular world of Fellini. The performance brings back vignettes from six popular Fellini films --- La Strada, Amarconi, La Dolce Vita, Intervista, Casanova and 8 1/2.

Slated on October 27, 8PM, at the CCP Main Theater, the show is a presentation of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy and the Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with Rustan's, Philippine Italian Association and The Peninsula Manila.

The show will be for the benefit of the CCP Foundation.

Please call the CCP Box Office at 832-1125 local 1409 or 832-3704 or you may also log-on to TicketWorld.

Jose Rizal’s prototypal first Filipino in Crisostomo Ibarra, is buffeted by the cruel winds of his fate and yet strives to remain standing tall in his ideals. About the Show:
American Idol Lambert auditioned for the 8th season of American Idol in San Francisco, California. During his initial audition, he sang "Rock With You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Lambert had cited several musical influences, including Madonna, Queen, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, and Led Zeppelin.

On May 20, 2009, Lambert was announced as the runner-up for the eighth season of American Idol. Lambert performed a medley of "Beth," "Detroit Rock City," and "Rock and Roll All Nite" with rock band Kiss during the final episode. His version of the winning single "No Boundaries" was later released on iTunes alongside American Idol winner Kris Allen`s version. Before the results were announced, Allen and Lambert joined together with Queen’s original guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor to perform the anthem "We Are the Champions."

Upon winning, Allen said "Adam deserved this." Explaining this remark, Allen said that he thought Lambert deserved to win as much as he did, and that Lambert "was the most consistent person all year. He was seriously one of the most gifted performers that I`ve ever met."

Post-IDOL
Adam Lambert released his debut album, "For Your Entertainment." Lambert announced via Twitter that his lead single from his debut album would be "For Your Entertainment," a song that was produced by Dr. Luke.

Lambert was recruited to record the soundtrack "Time for Miracles" for the disaster movie "2012" that was released on October 20, 2009 as a side project single. The song was lauded ahead of its release by Queen`s guitarist, Brian May, who described himself as being "completely blown away" upon hearing the track. The track "Time for Miracles" also appears on "For Your Entertainment."

On June 19, 2009, Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records revealed that they would be releasing "On With the Show," a compilation of songs Lambert had recorded prior to American Idol while working as a session musician. The album`s first single is "Want."

February 27th, 2010 Lambert performed his first official solo concert, held at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Adam Lambert is currently touring throughout the United States this summer with Allison Iraheta and Orianthi. He will be touring until December and he is taking the Glam Nation tour to Asia (like the Philippines =) and Europe.

Article from the Philippine Star...
Jon Santos' Fower List
(The Philippine Star) Updated July 23, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Jon Santos (photo) is back with his satires, post-election edition. He gets to the bottom of Pinoy hunger for power, fame and fortune in the age of oil spills, sinkholes, Facebook and Noy.

Titled 101 Jonjemons: Da Pinoy Fower List, Jon enumerates the 101 Pinoy icons, celebrities, and politicians that made us laugh, rant, rave and retch in this current society.

So who will make it to Jon’s Fower List? For sure, Krissie Anino will be there, the first sister, along with Nyoy Nyoy, the second Pinoy yellow president.

But are we going to see veteran icons Gloring Macatagal Arroyo, Manny Sapakyaw and Ate Vi of all Seasons? Or are new celebrities invading the list? Like Jajejijomar BInay, the country’s first black vice president, Charize Papakwa, the first Pinay godchild of godmother Afro Winfree and godfather Ellen Degenerous? How about Brazilian models led by Prisclla Mayriles? The entire gang of OPM Jukebox Glee?

Catch Jon’s series of shows on October 8 and 15 at Teatrino in Greenhills, Promenade in San Juan.

Tickets priced at P1,500 for Orchestra and P1,200 for Balcony are available at all Ticketworld outlets.

"THE SABADO FOUR... MORE!"

The wacky bunch of SABADO BOYS, each coming from a different genre, has indeed created a melting pot of various sounds and influences bound to conjure a weekly symphony of music, entertainment and good time.

LUKE MEJARES
After leaving South Border, in 2004, Luke Mejares went back to the spotlight with his debut solo album “Stop, Luke and Listen.” His singles “Paano Na” and “214” were commercial and critical triumphs. This earned Luke his victory in the 2005 Philippine Hip-hop Awards as Male R&B Artist of the Year and led industry insiders to tag him as the country’s King of R&B.

JIMMY BONDOC
Tagged as one of the country’s top acoustic artist, Jimmy “Mr. Musikero” Bondoc illuminates the terms "great talent," "performer," and "musicality." He has popularized numerous singles including the no. 1 phenomenal hit singles “Let Me Be The One” and “I Believe.” He has recently released the album “Undercovers,” a conglomerate of covers and revivals of songs that are close to Jimmy’s heart ("Grow Old With You," "Don`t Give Up On Us," "Beauty and Madness," etc.)

PAOLO SANTOS
This singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist has already put out four (4) albums, each landing at the top of the charts, has shared the stage with international artists like Duncan Sheik, Jason Mraz, and Keith Martin and considered as one of the most recognizable voices in Philippine music.

DJ MYKE SALOMON
DJ Myke is a member of the acapella all-male group Akafellas and is popular to be the top human beatbox in the Philippines. He sings, plays the guitar and is, uhm, also a weight-lifter.

Sleeping Beauty

A sleeping princess, a spellbound Prince and more fairies than you can shake a stick at are all part of this quirky adaptation of the popular tale. The evil Trollarina exacts her revenge on the royal family by sending the beautiful Princess Melisande into an everlasting sleep, but little does she realize more than one spell is about to be broken by the kiss of an enchanted Faun.

A new look at an old, old tale: she is not only the spellbound beauty, the Prince is an enchanted Faun, and his kisses release more than one spell, to the dismay of the wicked Fairy Trollarina. Another children's musical from the Prince Street Players. Songs include "I'm So Mad," "It's Lovely To Be A Troll" and "Spinning Song."

Tanghalang Pilipino and the Lark Play Development Center of New York Present the Asian Premiere of "American Hwangap"

Lloyd Suh`s American Hwangap makes its Asian premiere at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines starting September 10 until October 3, 2010. After a successful West Coast and Off-Broadway run, Tanghalang Pilipino and the Lark Play Development Center of New York collaborate to bring the production to Philippine audiences in its original English version and in Tagalog translation.

The dysfunctional comedy is set in a suburban Texas home whose members are shaken by the arrival of a long lost father who has come home to celebrate his 60th birthday. The wife and children wrestle with their broken past as they prepare for the celebration of the `hwangap`---the 60th birthday ritual that marks the completion of the zodiac cycle and also signals rebirth.

Luminaries of theater and cinema Mario O`Hara and Gina Pareno (Tagalog cast), Bembol Roco and Celeste Legaspi (English cast) lead the ensemble completed by Liezl Batucan, Nico Manalo and Jeremy Domingo. The play is directed by Chris Millado. Tagalog translation is by Joi Barrios Le-Blanc, set design by Mio Infante, light design by Katsch Catoy, sound design and original score by Jethro Joaquin and costume design by Kahlila Aguilos.

American Hwangap received its West Coast premiere in March 2009 at the Magic Theatre, San Francisco and then its New York premiere in May 2009 by Ma-Yi Theater Company. The play was produced as part of the Lark Play Development Center`s "Launching New Plays into the Repertoire Initiative" supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The New York Times described the production as "lovingly drawn and filled with endearing quirks that make it a delight to watch." Time Out New York recommended the production as a "must see" calling it "a family reunion reimagined as a Western shootout."
