About the Show:

This production is in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines in honor of Ms. Fides Cuyugan-Asensio, who penned the libretto and lyrics of the Song of Joseph, for her dedication to music theater for 60 years.

“Song of Joseph”, the Musical, is a music-theater masterpiece born out of love and devotion for the man who “took care of the interests” of Mary and Jesus. It is the life, the love and the glorious death of St. Joseph put into beautiful libretto and lyrics of Fides Asensio inspired from the bible and other little facts known about Saint Joseph. The music of the libretto was a team work of husband and wife Jeannelle and Raymond Roldan as their debut in music composition. It depicts the enduring love of Joseph for Mary, its joys and sorrows and the reward of a glorious death for having lived faithfully his divine call to be Mary’s and Jesus’ protector.

It is the first original Filipino full length musical on Saint Joseph, produced by Fr. Rony Alkonga, OSJ (Oblates of St. Joseph) in collaboration with Music Theater Foundation Philippines for the 100th year anniversary of the Oblates of Joseph in the Philippines. The music arrangements were created in collaboration with Jun Latonio, Paulo Zarate, Gino Cruz, Jungee Marcelo, and Alvin Nunez.

Family life, love and unity are the themes of The ‘Song of Joseph’ making it appropriate for the Christmas Season.

About the Show:

THE music of renowned 19th century Filipino composer Marcelo Adonay (1848-1928) will be brought to life by the Philippine Madrigal Singers led by Mark Carpio, with bass soloist, Greg de Leon, pianist Nita Abrogar-Quinto, violinist Chona Noble, the UP Cherubim and Seraphim, conducted by Elena R. Mirano, and the UP Orchestra under the baton of Prof. Edna Martinez in a concert entitled Adonay, the Maestro from Pakil on November 30, 2011, Wednesday, 3 PM, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Little Theater. An informal talk on the maestro and his milieu at 1:30 PM at the CCP Dream Theater will precede the concert.

Repertoire will include La Marieta, La Julita for solo piano; Pequeña Balse, Meditacion Lugubre for violin and piano; Salve Regina, Libera Me Domine, Gozos a la Santisima Virgen (a Nuestra Señora de la Consolacion), Villancico a Belen Pastores, and two movements (Kyrie and Gloria) from his greatest sacred work, the Pequeña Misa Solemne (1903), which Adonay based on a fragment of Gregorian chant taken from a Flemish mass dated 1669.

Marcelo Adonay (1848-1928) hailed from Pakil, Laguna, and entered San Agustin Church as a tiple (boy soprano), as was the custom then in Spanish colonial times. His musical genius unfolded at the convent, a combination of self-taught and friar-honed skills, as he soon became adept at playing the organ, piano, violin, contrabass, flute and trumpet, composing liturgical as well as secular pieces. He eventually became the first Filipino maestro de capilla (chapel master) of the San Agustin music establishment, a much in-demand orchestra conductor and music teacher. Together with other Filipino musicians of his time such as Jose Canseco, Francisco Roxas, Bibiano Morales, Rosalio Silos and Manuel Mata, he lived and worked in what has been called “The Golden Age of Filipino Music” — 1880-1890. He was also instrumental in founding two important music societies -- the Union Artistica Musical in 1885, and the Sociedad de Santa Cecilia in 1888, organizations which aimed to promote and uplift Filipino music, and protect the interests of Filipino musicians.

Come and be part of a rare musical journey back to the glorious days of the Maestro’s era, when San Agustin Church reverberated magnificently with Adonay’s music.

Witness Dr. Seuss' Stories Come Alive in Repertory Philippines' "Seussical" at Onstage Greenbelt from August to December 2011

Repertory Philippines presents...

Seussical
Theatre for Young Audiences
OnStage Greenbelt (2/F Greenbelt 1, Ayala Center, Makati City)

Music By Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Book by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens

Directed by Joy Virata

Synopsis

Now one of the most performed shows in America, "Seussical" is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime," "Once On This Island") have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination--Jojo. "Oh, the Thinks You Will Think" as the spirit of imagination transports the colorful characters from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

For this version, certain plot elements have been simplified, it is in one act, and runs approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes - perfect for presentation in schools.

The story centers around Horton the Elephant, who finds himself faced with a double challenge--not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (and all the invisible Whos) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes "his kind and his powerful heart." Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant, in a story that makes you laugh and cry.

November 18 (Friday) - December 11 (Sunday), 2011

Starring: Rachelle Ann Go & Erik Santos

The title character is a precocious teenager named Ariel, the daughter of Triton, king of the Sea. Against her dad's wishes, Ariel journeys beyond her own world to the surface, where she falls in love with Prince Eric, a handsome human. Foolishly, the little mermaid enters into an agreement with evil sea witch Ursula in order to become human herself. About the Show:

Teatro Tomasino, the university-wide theater guild of the University of Santo Tomas, together with their professional adviser John “Sweet” Lapus, invites you to their upcoming major production entitled “Sa Huling Pahina” directed by their alumnus, Chi de Jesus.

Sa Huling Pahina” is a one-act play written by Chris Martinez. It presents an uncanny idea of the possibility of what might have happened to the three (3) seemingly secondary characters of Noli Me Tangere (Tiyago, Victorina and Consolacion), questioning their existence and wanting more than what they were written to be – forgetting that their characters are pivotal and equally important to spark interest and open one’s mind to endless possibilities. It would as well showcase highlights of chapters from Noli Me Tangere.

For further inquiries, you may contact Aina Dawang at (+63)915-6728411 or Tiffany Balod at (+63)932-5400955 or the Teatro Tomasino Office at (63-2)786-1611 local 8484.

CCP’S Finest Raise Funds for Education

THE nine flagship performing companies of the Cultural Center of the Philippines perform their best works in a fundraising gala on 3 November 2011 at 8:00 p.m. at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) . In a rare dance and musical revue, dancers, singers, musicians, and actors from the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Ballet Philippines, Tanghalang Pilipino, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, Philippine Madrigal Singers, Philippine Ballet Theater, UST Symphony Orchestra, National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company perform to raise funds for the Center’s arts education and audience development program.

The CCP Gala launches the Membership Program that seeks to encourage and solicit the support of individuals and corporations to fund programs that will bring the shows of the CCP to public schools and underserved communities. The fund shall also enable teachers to teach arts in the classroom and develop materials on Philippine art and culture. While the CCP receives government funding, it is continually challenged by the rising cost of production and expenses related to the expansion of programs, especially in the area of arts education and audience development.

CCP Members will have access to an array of Exclusive Privileges such as discounts, invitations to special events, access to working rehearsals and more. Members become Partners in making “art matter to the life of every Filipino.”

Join the CCP Membership Program for as low as P1,000.00. Call 832-1125 local 1800 and 1808 or email marketing@culturalcenter.gov.ph
