Tanghalang Pilipino Holds Auditions For Scholarship @ CCP on June 30, 2010


Tanghalang Pilipino (TP), the theatre company that recently staged Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters" and Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire," will hold auditions for scholarship on June 30, 2010 (Wednesday), 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the CCP Amado Hernandez, Upper Basement, Tanghalang Pambansa, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.

TP, the resident theatre arm of the CCP, was established 23 years ago. The company primarily aims to promote Philippine theatre that has long been enmeshed in its people's history and culture.

The company has already produced more than 200 full productions, including original and adapted materials, for 23 seasons.

It also manages a pool of professional theatre actors named TP's Actors Company that include theatre veterans Fernando Josef, Nonie Buencamino, Connie Chua, Shamaine Centenera Buencamino, Irma Adlawan, John Arcilla, RJ Leyran, Olga Natividad, Allan Paule, Ony de Leon, Gary Lim, George de Jesus III, Roeder Camanag, Joey Paras, and Herbie Go.

Scholarship applicants must be at least 18 years old, and must have completed a two-year diploma or certificate program or earned a four-year college degree.

Each one must submit a resume with two photographs (2"x2" head shot and 3"x5" full body shot). Be prepared to perform a three-minute monologue in Filipino from any published local or foreign play translated into Filipino, a song in Filipino, and a short movement piece.

Be ready to do an improvised scene.

A compact disc player will be provided to those who may need it.

Successful applicants will attend regular classes in acting, stage movement, voice, and script analysis starting July 6, 2010.

TP's 24th season opener is the original rock musical "Banaag at Sikat" with book and lyrics by National Artist for Literature Bien Lumbera, music by Lucien Letaba, and stage direction by Jose Estrella. The musical opens August 6, 2010.
