About the Show:

"The Cultural Center of the Philippines together with MusicArtes Inc., will stage Giacomo Puccini's most famous opera *Madame Butterfly* at the CCP Main Theater for only two performances on June 22 and 23, 2012.

This timeless masterpiece will feature Japanese soprano Mako Nishimoto, Mexican tenor Dante Alcalá, acclaimed Filipina soprano Camille Lopez Molina and international baritone Andrew Fernando, with Gerard Salonga conducting the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

Last seen as a full production in Manila in 1994, *Madame Butterfly* is one of the most- performed operas worldwide, imbued with the sublime and beautiful music of Puccini. Multi-awarded international director Dr. Anton Juan will helm this compelling version which will fuse both the traditional and contemporary, with Maestro Francisco Feliciano as music director.

Supporting the lead cast are top Filipino singers John Glenn Gaerlan, Lemuel de la Cruz, Jonathan Velasco, Nonon Baang, Jun Jaranilla, Viva Voce and graduates of the UP College of Music, UST Conservatory and St. Scholastica’s College. Talented young designer Leroy New will execute the set and costumes, with John Batalla creating the lights design." - TicketWorld

Comment: When my family and I went to Australia for vacation way back in 2009, this was being staged at the Sydney Opera House. I felt bad I missed it since I only found out about it the day after the event. Good thing Madame Butterfly is now here in Manila. Finally! My chance to watch and with my friends pa =)

Rating: 4/5

Review: If you are going to watch one opera in your lifetime, let it be "Madame Butterfly." So heart-wrenching that I couldn't stop crying at the end of the show. I'm also delighted that a translation was posted for every Italian line sung so people watching could understand. The Japanese and Mexican leads were amazing as well as the Filipino supporting cast. Bravo! Bravo! We gave you all a standing ovation that night =)
